Thrive by Five

Challenge

In 2005 the legislature approved Governor Chris Gregoire’s Washington Learns initiative, leading to a comprehensive study of the state’s educational system. The study identified a number of key early learning-related areas that are in need of support, including parenting education and support, child care, preschool, and early learning environments.

Program

Thrive by Five Washington is devoted to improving Washington State’s ability to prepare children for success in school and life. The organization works with partners like the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Department of Early Learning to take steps toward making increased support for young children and families available. The first Thrive communities, in Yakima and White Center, are the first phases of what will eventually be a statewide parenting and community education campaign.
